November 20 - Solvay Fire Dept.

Onondaga County Fire Police Assn.
Information on Training Opportunities for First Responders

OCVFPA On Wednesday November 13, the Onondaga County Fire Police Assn. will have its regular monthly meeting at the Amber Fire Dept, 2214 Amber Rd. Marietta. Dinner will be at 1830 hrs and the meeting at 1900 hrs.

Rich Flanagan will present an overview of training opportunities for first responders including law enforcement, fire service, and emergency management at the State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany. The program will include a brief discussion of some of the training programs and pictures of the facility including its various venues.

Of particular interest for fire service personnel is the new Swift Water and Flood Training (SWFT) Facility, which includes a concrete swift water channel and urban flood simulator. SWFT facilitates training on water rescue operations, and emergency boat procedures. SWFT is the first of its kind in terms of a swift water training facility dedicated solely for training first responders.
Further information and training calendar can be found at www.dhses.ny.gov/sptc/

Rich will also be providing information about the State’s Traffic Incident Management (TIM) course, and how first response agencies including Fire Police can attend that program.
